DAVID B. HOOTEN Multi-Grammy and Emmy nominated musician, David B. Hooten is known as the “Musician’s Musician” and the “Maker of Memories.” Born in Frascati, Italy into an Air Force family, Hooten lived in various cities through the U.S. and Europe. Hooten received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Music Education from North Texas State University and a Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Oklahoma. As a child, Hooten took trumpet lessons from the local music store owner, Merle Brandon, for which he was never charged a cent. Brandon always said, “Do what I tell you, and that is payment enough.” Hooten later studied with legendary trumpet instructor, Don “Jake” Jacoby. In May 1989, Hooten released his first album, “The Trumpet Shall Sound,” produced on his own label, D.B.H. Productions, Inc. The critically-acclaimed album, which included his first hit single, “Amazing Grace,” sold tens of thousands of copies worldwide. He has since released over 20 albumsand has performed on and produced over 100 albums. In addition to recording, Hooten's busy schedule includes appearances worldwide as a guest trumpet soloist in recitals and with symphony orchestras. Hooten has been soloist with The Kiev Symphony Orchestra, The Garland Symphony Orchestra, The East Texas Symphony Orchestra, The Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, The Enid Symphony Orchestra, The Mormon Youth Orchestra and Choir, The Oklahoma City Philharmonic, The Thailand National Symphony Orchestra, for Thailand's gala event of the year, and for Queen Elizabeth II 60th Birthday. Hooten also performed a private performance for The Royal Family and was invited to record an album with the Princess of Thailand. Hooten has performed numerous times as a soloist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Conductor Joel Levine is quoted as saying, "David is a joy to work with. He really knows how to excite the audience." From 1999-2008, Hooten hosted Oklahoma’s highest rated Sunday morning radio show, “Sunday Sonrise.” On April 19, 1996, Hooten had the honor of performing "Amazing Grace" at the Memorial Ceremony for the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing which was broadcast worldwide. Hooten has performed our National Anthem for numerous events including, the Olympic Games, the Legends Tennis Tournament, the Virginia Slims Tennis Tournament, the New York Yankees at old Yankee Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys, the University of Oklahoma Sooners football program, and the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball organization. On Father's Day 1997, David performed on "The Hour of Power" television show from the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA to a 70 plus country audience. Since then, Hooten has appeared 22 additional times on the show. In September 1999, Hooten was honored to perform at a private audience for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican in Rome. Hooten was humbled to speak to and be blessed by The Holy Father, who is now Sainted! Hooten has performed for numerous presidents, including Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. While performing at the White House for President Bush, Hooten proposed to his then girlfriend, Whitney, in the China Room. She accepted an Oval Diamond engagement ring to coincide with the Oval Office. Whitney and David were married and now have three beautiful children, Henry David, Ave Elizabeth, and David Benjamin Hooten Jr. Hooten is currently the official trumpeter for the "Palmer Cup" and performs throughout the world for the worldwide college golf event. Hooten also composed "Fanfare for an Amateur Athlete," which is the Palmer Cup Theme and has been aired on the Golf Channel internationally. In February of 2000, Hooten was invited to be the soloist with the Kiev Symphony Orchestra to record a solo album. The recording of romantic classical music and opera arias, adapted for solo trumpet and orchestra by Hooten, was a fantastic success. The album is entitled "From Kiev with Love." Hooten has released two duet albums with guitarist, Edgar Cruz, entitled "Timeless," and "Sweet Georgia Blue." Hooten has also released two duet albums with clarinetist, Bob Snyder, entitled “Dixieland Praise” and “A Grand Christmas.” Hooten has raised millions of dollars for charities over the years. Hooten established and now serves as President for The Children's Music Education Foundation. Hooten and his wife established the David and Whitney Hooten Foundation through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 2001. The self-directed foundation helps provide music opportunities for children. Hooten was the title sponsor for the 2003 David B. Hooten Invitational Golf Tournament, a part of the Hooter’s Pro Tour and has chaired Red-Tie Night, Oklahoma’s single largest fundraising event which benefits the Oklahoma AIDS Care Fund. In addition to his musical abilities, Hooten has incorporated family traditions and an appreciation for great food. In 1993, Hooten purchased Mama Lucia's Italian Restaurant and ran it successfully for 15 years, he then closed the 36 year old business to spend more time with his family. On Thursday evenings Hooten would perform for diners with other invited musicians, such as Henry Mancini, Bobby McFerrin, Wynton Marsalis, The Manhattan Transfer, and countless others. Hooten now manufactures David’s Meat Sauce under the Hooten Jazz Kitchen label and it is marketed worldwide. Hooten has a busy schedule planned for 2014, including performances throughout the United States and Europe.
