Tweed Funk’s CD (release date of March 15, 2011) consists of 9 original tracks and one cover tune. The CD has spent 18 weeks on the Roots Music Report (RMR) Blues Internet Chart reaching #5 and has spent 6 weeks in the Top 5. The CD has appeared on the RMR Wisconsin State Chart for 30 straight weeks (including 13 weeks at #1). Here is what Blues DJs and Critics are saying about the CD: "The Milwaukee quartet that call themselves Tweed Funk have just released an eye-opening debut entitled "Bringin' It," that combines elements of jazz, neo-soul, funk, and the blues to create a high-energy, versatile sound, and includes nine originals and one cool cover…Tweed Funk have taken the traditions of the blues and today's music to successfully forge a unique sound all their own.”– Nashville Blues Society "Singer Smokey started out under Curtis Mayfield and demonstrates that he has a fine voice for soul and blues. The playing throughout is very good, especially the guitar of JD Optekar...I particularly enjoyed the more bluesy tunes such as “Super Mad Woman” and “Black Coffee” as well as “Salsa Blues”. The band has an excellent singer and strong instrumental players…For those who like a good dose of funk mixed into their blues this CD is well worth checking out." – John Mitchell, The Blues Blast Magazine “Excellent CD” – Steve Stoddard, KTUH 90.3 FM "Liked it a LOT. Liked the Funk, the Spunk - all Killer no Filler. Liked that all cuts but the Sly tune are originals. Liked the Funk/Blues mixture. Who can object to a title like 'Blues Is The Truth'?" – Bob "Blues Doctor" Decker, WNRB-LP Radio 93.3 FM "Tweed Funk: Blues, Funk, Soul, Gospel, R&B at it’s best." – Sugar's Picks - 3/21/11, KVNF "A stylish blend that is superbly versatile, and fits 'round your ears like a custom fedora. If 'Bringin It' doesn't get your mojo movin', ya'll better call the undertaker 'cause your spirit has done left the building." – John “blueshammer” Hammer, www.bluemondaymonthly.com "Tweed Funk's ‘Bringin It’ blends Blues and Funk into a nice little cocktail for the ears…they've gotta be a fun band to catch live!" – Jerry D, Blues Programmer, 103.9fm WQCY in Quincy, and 105.5 The KAT, Kankakee IL “Just got your CD I am diggin the digits :) I am feelin the funk” – Kool Breeze, Blues DJ, 2010 “Blues Ambassador”, koolbreeze.podomatic.com "Great vocals with superb backing...Blues / Funk with some R & B woven throughout the Tweed , you can't sit still...get up offa that thang..!" – J.R. aka "Shameless James," The Open Road, KPVL 89.1 FM, D.A.S.Y. Productions From Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters to the Brits Across the Pond to Stevie Ray - the history of the blues has been full of innovators that pushed the boundaries of the genre and made it fresh to a new generation of listeners. While we don’t claim to be the next great boundary breaker, we do hope that our music will help open a few minds and ears to the great American art form. Thus we have created a product that brings together our musical influences of blues, soul, funk, gospel, urban - and wrapped it all up in the spirit of our forefathers. Long live the blues! – Tweed Funk Nashville Blues Society Review of CD Sheryl and Don Crow Nashville Blues Society TWEED FUNK BRINGIN' IT TWEED TONE RECORDS BLUES IS THE TRUTH--I KNOW--SUPER MAD WOMAN--B-LINE--BRAINFREEZE--TESTIFY--MY BABY'S ALRIGHT--THANK YOU (FALETTINMEBEMICELFAGIN)--SALSA BLUES--BLACK COFFEE During the critically-acclaimed PBS series, "Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues," director Marc Levin offered a segment entitled "Godfathers And Sons" which showed how today's R & B, rap, and hip-hop artists could trace their musical roots and beginnings back to the blues. Using this premise, the Milwaukee quartet that call themselves Tweed Funk have just released an eye-opening debut entitled "Bringin' It," that combines elements of jazz, neo-soul, funk, and the blues to create a high-energy, versatile sound , and includes nine originals and one cool cover. Lead vocalist Smokey has that stone cold old-school vibe, and he's got the pedigree to prove it, having been signed to Curtis Mayfield's Curtom label in the Seventies. He kicks off the party with a "history lesson" of sorts, with "Blues Is The Truth," complete with a synth-rap break at the bridge. "Brainfreeze" showcases the outstanding backing musicians, including the dynamite horn and keys section. Scratchy guitar drives the killer beats of "Testify," while, for a serious Sunday-morning hangover, the only thing that'll drive the blues away is "Black Coffee," augmented by a sweet organ solo. We had three favorites, too. A cold shot of good ol' Chicago-styled blues is the rockin', stop-time shuffle, "My Baby's Alright." And, Smokey puts his soul-drenched voice to good use in the slow-burnin', testifyin,' of "Super Mad Woman." And, the whole band cuts loose on a rompin, stompin' cover of Sly Stone's "Thank You." Tweed Funk have taken the traditions of the blues and today's music to successfully forge a unique sound all their own. With constant touring in support of this set, they are sho-nuff "Bringin' It!" Until next time.....Sheryl and Don Crow
