Alfonso Gómez (piano) Born in Vitoria-Gasteiz in 1978, the spanish pianist Alfonso Gómez began to play the piano at the tender age of five. He studied at the Jesús Guridi Conservatory of Music in the same city under professors Patricia Escudero and Albert Nieto and graduated with the highest distinction, the Premio de Honor. With the aid of a grant from the Álava Regional Government, Gómez enrolled in advanced courses with Professor Aquiles delle Vigne at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Holland) from 1997 to 2001, which he also completed with the highest honours. From 2001 until 2004, Gómez studied with the eminent Tibor Szász at the Musikhochschule of Freiburg (Germany), where he graduated with honours in the soloist category. Gómez has also pursued advanced studies under G. Egiazarova, E. Haedsick, J. Wijn, L. de Moura Castro, G. Mishory and J. Rouvier, to name a few. Alfonso Gómez has won national and international competitions on a number of occasions, including first prize in the J. Françaix Piano Competition (Paris), the City of Guernica Piano Competition, the Alter Musici Competition (Cartagena) and the Gerald Diego Competition (Soria). In 1999, he was awarded the Erasmus Kamermuziekprijs Prijs in Rotterdam. Gómez has performed in numerous concerts and recitals in Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Germany, Italy, the Ukraine, Mexico and South Korea. As a soloist, he has been featured in concerts with the Frankfurt Philharmonic (Oder), Rotterdam Young Philharmonic, Orkest van Utrecht, Aita Donostia Chamber Orchestra, Musikhochschule Orchester Freiburg, Gyeonggi Philharmonic and Euro-Asian Philharmonic, under the baton of conductors such as Roy Goodman, Jurjen Hempel, Nanse Gum, Juan Jose Mena, J. Kaell and Scott Sandmeier. Alfonso Gómez has a wide-ranging repertoire that spans from baroque to contemporary music. He has premiered works by several contemporary composers, some of whom have dedicated works to him. Gómez has recorded severals CDs for labels “Erol”, “Spanish Music Festival of León" and "Sinkro Records". Since 2008 he is professor at the University of Music "Musikene" of the Basque Country in San Sebastian. Ignacio Monterrubio (electronics) Ignacio Monterrubio specialises in composition and programming Max/MSP software in Bordeaux along with professors Christian Eloy and Christophe Havel. Monterrubio has been a member of the Espacio Sinkro group of artists in Vitoria-Gasteiz, as well as technical coordinator and head of software and sound for its electroacoustic music concerts since 2002. He also helps organise the SINKRO FESTIVAL and the International Electroacoustic Music Workshops, in addition to his collaboration as Garth Knox’s musical assistant for Grisey’s Prologue and Zuriñe F. Gerenabarrena’s Kapestia and percussionist Rie Watanabe’s assistant for the Percussion & Live Electronics concert that featured works such as Karlheinz Stockhausen’s VIBRA-ELUFA, Annea Lockwood’s Amazonia Dreaming, Juan José Eslava’s SKIN’S TRACES and Gerard Buquet’s SURIMPRESSIONS. Monterrubio’s works have been premiered and performed in many different festivals, such as the Punto de Encuentro International Electroacoustic Music Festival in Madrid, the Musikaste Festival in Renteria, Nuit De La Creátion in Bordeaux (France), the New Trends in Contemporary Music/Vitoria Visual Territory Festival in Vitoria, the Jovellanos Cultural Centre’s concert series in Gijon, the Ai-Maako International Electroacoustic Music Festival in Chile, the VAE10 International Video, Art and Electronics Festival in Lima (Peru), the 14th International Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana (Slovenia), the 7th International Acousmatic and Multimedia Festival in Lanús (Buenos Aires, Argentina), the Encontres de Compositors in Mallorca, the Fundación Phonos-Metronom Concerts in Barcelona, the International Klem-Kuraia Festival in Leioa, and the Sinkro Festival in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Along with Guillermo Lauzurica and Alfonso G. de la Torre, Monterrubio founded the experimental music group SIRIUS in 2007. Monterrubio is currently working as a sound artist exploring the different possibilities within the electroacoustic music genre and its combinations with other styles and artistic disciplines and as a coordinator and sound generator on a number of different contemporary sound projects.
