It was another long day at work…Not just one of those good ole Friday. I was in a little bit of a heated argument with one of my partners over some random BS but you know how that goes, right or wrong you owe the boss an apology (it sucks right??). Well, let’s say for my little skinny black a**, the sun was on my side for the day. That made me feel at home and got me in the mood to vibe to some of my real afro jams. My entire playlist was made up of classic hits from Fela Kuti. His chants got me waving my giraffe-like skinny neck to the calm Iowa wind that was slowly blowing through my air spaced rickety dansiki shirt as I am sitting in the calm courtyard of my crowded humble apartment. As I was listening to this playlist, something random played…It’s Mr Eazi’s new song – Tilapia. Yes, these combinations of Mr. Eazi’s Tilapia and Fela (Afro and Highlife) spun my level of inspiration from 5 to 100. I quickly jumped up and headed straight to my room, flipped my dang laptop open and switched my microphone on. I finally figured what has been missing in this song that I have been writing for the past 3 months. Before you know it, I was flowing in tears, telling this story that I have been looking for the best way to get off my chest for years. A typical story of an African man looked down on by a woman whom he is in love with, A story that gave birth to a lot of other stories I would be sharing with you in my next compilation.
