简介
"Calgary musician Evan Freeman’s debut album Luna is quite possibly one of the most ambitious and successfully so works of epic musical art to come out of this city in years if not decades — a masterfully sculpted piece of pop-informed shoegazing wonderment that is as intricate and realized and brilliant as it is pretty and pleasurable and spiritually uplifting. It changes things." -Mike Bell, Calgary Herald Luna tells a story of rebirth and transcendence. From ambition to aspiration, from the personal to the universal. The thematic arc of the album is based on the life cycle of the Luna moth (Actias Luna): from larva to chrysalis to fully-realized being. Evan weaves this theme drawing from his experiences growing up in Calgary’s emerging arts scene; his travels in Iceland, Mongolia and the rocky mountains; and his recent two-year stint living in Mexico City. Recording took place at OCL Studios, a creative oasis located near Calgary, with engineer Josh Rob Gwilliam behind the board. Derek Downham (The Beauties, Andy Kim, Serena Ryder) produced the record, infusing pristine textures and moments of overwhelming intensity into the songs. The album was mixed by Arran Fisher (Freak Heat Waves, Woodpigeon, The Summerlad) and mastered by Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, Constantines, Wintersleep). In live performance, Evan is joined by prolific local musicians Darren Young, Brendan McGuigan, Robin Cillo, and Keath Mueller. This dynamic quintet interprets Evan’s material with mind-blowing intensity and infectious groove.
