Eugene Marlow has composed 180+ jazz and classical pieces for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, and jazz big band. His jazz pieces have been performed by the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop Big Band, the Primary Colors Trio, the SYOTOS Latin/Jazz Band with Chris Washburne, The Numinous Orchestra, The Andy LaVerne Trio, The Trevor Day Big Band, the Bobby Sanabria Big Band, the Manhattan School of Music Latin Jazz Orchestra, the New School Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, and the George Gee Big Band. His classical solo and chamber works have been performed by the Kandinsky and Corigliano String Quartets, the Circadia Woodwind Quintet, the Alaria Chamber Ensemble, the Damocles Trio, and virtuoso pianists Nataliya Medvedovskaya and Nada Loutfi. He is a former member of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, and current member of the International Association for Jazz Education, the Jazz Journalists Association, the New York Composers Circle, Chamber Music America, and the National Academy for Recording Arts and Sciences. Marlow is also co-chair of the Milt Hinton Jazz Perspectives concert series at Baruch College (The City University of New York). Marlow’s first CD was the critically acclaimed “A Summer Afternoon With You” (2005), a collection of 10 original jazz compositions for quintet led by pianist/composer Michael Abene. A second CD, “Making the Music Our Own” (2006), is a collection of nine Hebriac melodies recast in various jazz styles. Collectively, these two CDs have been aired on radio stations in 22 countries, including the United States. A third CD, “Les Sentiments D’Amour” (2006) with pianist Nada Loutfi, was his first classical CD project. In addition to composing, Marlow is researching a book on jazz in China.
