简介

"From the Moon to the Earth" is a 21-piece song cycle from composer and recording artist J S Kingfisher. One piece from the cycle was released as a single every full Moon from February 14, 2014 through September 27, 2015, at which time the entire project was released as a whole for download. On the full Moon of October 27, 2015, the project became available as a two-disc, two-booklet set. "From the Moon to the Earth" presents in two halves (hence the two discs) bridged by a transition piece, "Tellurian Passage." The project features several guest vocalists, including Maiya Sykes, LaVance Colley, Jacob Collier, and Jeffery Smith, and a stellar cast of LA's finest session players: among many others, Dave Stone on bass, Ron Feuer, Sr. on piano and organ, Brad Dutz on percussion, Gayle Levant on harp, Sara Andon on flute, and a horn section featuring Jay Mason, Jeff Bunnell, and Charlie Morillas. The tracks on the project range from the thoughtful and melancholy "From the Moon" to the sizzling "Nosferatu" and "The Rhythm Line"; from the poignant "Do I Love Well" and meditative "Sabbatum Sanctum" to the whimsical "Man in the Moon" and the joyful, retro "Sous la Belle Lune Bleue." Kingfisher arranged and produced all of the tracks, and wrote music and lyrics for all but two covers: the 1965 Jonathan King classic, "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" and Jerry Herman's "The Man in the Moon" (from his Broadway musical, "Mame.") Kingfisher plays keyboards and sings on the majority of the tracks, and plays harpejji, a 24-string tap instrument, throughout. "From the Moon to the Earth" was recorded and mixed by Kingfisher at Goddess of Mercy Studio in Los Angeles, and by Paul Tavenner at Big City Recording in Granada Hills, California; Paul also mastered the project. Art direction and website design is commandeered by Andy Markley at Art101.com, Central Command; the specially commissioned paintings for the CD jacket and discs are by British astronomical artist Richard Bizley.
