简介
Onanon are a 21st century Dunedin band that continues the southern city's tradition for catchy, swirling melodies, twisted guitar mayhem and great songwriting. Comparisons include the Pixies and NZ's own 3Ds, but they really are blazing their own indie-rock trail across the country. Their blend of darkly humorous lyrics, boy/girl harmonies and wiggy, infectious melodic hooks have been winning over hearts and minds in Dunedin and beyond. With three of the four band members writing songs the group has never been short of great and varied material. Onanon sets cover a diverse range from sweet, gentle pop to psychotic noise-fests. Songs such as “Hit & Run”, “Your Days Are Numbered” and “Bugged” have become genuine New Zealand College Radio Network bNet hits. Their live set teeters from near-total chaos to tight, infectious pop, and their song-writing abilities continue to evolve in surprising new directions. Onanon are fiercely independent, producing and releasing their own material themselves in true indie-rock fashion on their own record label, Madfishwish. Quite frankly, they wouldn't have it any other way. The DIY attitude extends to their visual presentation. Guitarists Glen Ross and Donald Ferns are professional graphic artists by trade and have contributed their uniquely warped visions to the band's posters, CD covers and music videos, as well as directing videos for other bands such as Haunted Love's infamous "Librarian" video (http://www.youtube.com/hauntedlove). Another recent highlight for Onanon was performing at the prestigious ReSound (http://www.seenindunedin.co.nz/events/city/dhf_resound.html), a concert celebrating the legacy and future of Dunedin's rich musical heritage, held in March 2007. Onanon performed in the Dunedin's Regent Theatre to an enthusiastic, entralled and charmed near-capacity crowd during the Dunedin Heritage festival, alongside legends of Dunedin rock such as the Clean, the Chills, and Sneaky Feelings as well as contemporary acts from the city's current music scene.
