Chameleon is one of the most diverse albums you'll ever hear. Being a fan of many genre's I decided to take on as many as I could on this CD for various reasons. Mostly because I love music but secondly to show my diversity as a songwriter, which is predominantly what I see myself as. My producer/co-writer/friend Dan Skeed is a musical genius. No question. Every instrumental note you hear on this album, besides the lead guitar collaborations from Enzo, is all Dan, (plus he has some BV's in there as well). Our collaboration has been an amazing experience, one which I am very proud of and now ecstatic to be able to share with you all. Some quick notes on each track: One Second of Summer (1SOS): The melody for this tune popped into my head in the shower! Next studio session I sang it to Dan and we started the process. The guide vocal was just me singing the melody of the song and we called it NaNaNAH. I still have the audio files of each developmental stage of each song and what this turned into is amazing. We had a blast writing this track and it also marked the first time Dan and I wrote lyrics together on a track. The usual is that I write the melody and lyrics and Dan adds the magic. At the time of recording I was loving Walk the Moon and Olly Murs so we added their flavour in there as well. Every Piece of My Heart: When I found out my wife was pregnant it was an amazing day. I've always heard that the love you have for your child is like nothing else, so I wanted to write a song saying to my wife that the way she makes me feel I can't imagine loving any greater. Of course I could and I do, I just love my wife and son equally as much and more every day. I've always loved the standards and was a huge Harry Connick Jr fan growing up. So this is a tribute to that genre. We added some Michael Buble flavours and went a little Wayne Newton on the vocals late in the song. Favourite New Song: Who doesn't love discovering a new song for the first time? Playing it over and over until you learn every line and every beat. Then rewinding if you mess up the words so you can listen to it again until you can sing it right through. I saw a great parallel when it comes to starting a new relationship and the genre could only be country. I am a huge Keith Urban fan so we added his flavour throughout. I'm hoping one day he will hear it and maybe record it himself. What do you say Keith? That December Night: The chorus for this track was actually the first song I ever wrote back in 1993. The tune has always been playing in my head ever since, which is always the mark of a great song, so I finally recorded it. For this song we went with some early 80's KISS and used a similar bridge as Bryan Adams Summer of 69. Classic Rock. One Shot: Huey Lewis and the News really were the first band I loved growing up. When Power of Love dropped in 1985 I was hooked. This song is an obvious tribute to Huey. I hope he likes it if he ever hears it. Ready to Fly: 80's movie soundtracks are by far the best and nothing will ever come close. Rocky 3 and 4, Top Gun, Footloose etc. We went hardcore Rocky on this track but amped it up to 11! The dueling lead guitar is epic and features Enzo Almanzi from melodic rock group White Widdow, battling it out with Dan. I wrote the chorus for this in a dream one night and luckily the melody was still in my head when I woke up. Grab your air guitars! Cold Turkey: Power ballads. Every 80's rock band were defined by them. Name an 80's hair band that doesn't have an amazing power ballad? This is our take on one. Enzo plays the lead on this one and it is magical. The ending is EPIC and we channeled Stephen Tyler for the final harmony. Dream On! Thanks for all your support DP
