Opulent, sleazy, and straight up ridiculous - just a few words that come to mind when describing “RHULUMENTE,” the statement single by Cape Town artist GREEK. The song’s whole premise is based on the idea of having “mali ngathi ndine timer elikuRhulumente” (“money like I got a dad in government”), a statement which may or may not be true, but it sounds so good that it’s convincing. “RHULUMENTE” features Guy Onke, a frequent collaborator of GREEK’s, and mtshanakamalume, the DJ for both artists who performs the intro dialogue on the song. It is produced by a97 (producer of previous Guy Onke/GREEK. collab “iiWAY”) and Roscosteazy, who’s typically an Amapiano producer but switched it up to show his versatility this time around. The production duo came through to serve some bouncy, minimalist trap that is sure to shake a few roofs this summer. Lyrically, the song features typical rap tropes such as bragging about money, girls, etc. But the way in which it is done here, predominantly in Xhosa/Cape Town township sang, is so creative that every line is a quotable of its own. “RHULUMENTE” is the first single from GREEK’s upcoming EP, VOLUME 3, which is slated for a November 2021 release.
