What is your dream celebration for the big 4-0? Mine was to record in Studio 2 at the famous Abbey Road studios in Northern London. You might know a few of the bands who have recorded there….The Beatles..The Hollies…Pink Floyd…..and now me! After a fortuitous set of events, I was allowed a day session, drained my bank accounts, and set forth on my fantasy trip with the love and support of my wife and son. I even had some borrowed Liverpudlians to make sure the accents in the headphones were right on. I released the first set of recordings as a vinyl 45RPM single, and reserved a special few to be worked on back in the states. These few turned into a full length album, that was recorded on an old 1" tape reel to reel machine that I bought and had a mad scientist restore for me. With the help of some VERY special friends: Kay Hanley from Letters To Cleo (and Josie And The Pussycats!), Ken Stringfellow of the Posies, Ed Ball (of Television Personalities/The Times), Dave Mattacks (drummer for Fairport Convention, XTC, Paul McCartney, etc.) Boo Radley’s Martin Carr, Richard Davies from Cardinal and my usual cast of collaborators. The songs are undoubtedly my finest, and with the quality direction and encouragement of Ms. Hanley, these are the best vocal takes I have ever done. The album was finished at Q Division in Boston and beautifully mixed by sonic mastermind Ducky Carlisle. Moreover, it was mastered by my old college buddy Gavin Lurssen who has a bunch of shiny Grammys and does all T Bone Burnett's records and drives a really cool motorcycle. if you like cracking pop tunes, music recorded on tape, Hofner bass, glockenspiel, Nilsson- esque arrangements, bowed saw, tea-towels on your tom toms or the seductive sounds of the mighty omnichord, this is the album for you. xo Corin
