After the release of John Lancaster's debut solo record "Phantom Moon", a band was assembled to play live shows that currently consists of Barry Smith (bass - Earth to Eros, Hybrid Zero), Josh Adkins (drums - Abdullah, Erase the Grey), and Mac Walker (guitar - Hyatari, Chum). After two years of playing local and regional shows, Lancaster opted for a more stripped down approach (both sonically speaking and personnel-wise) when it came time to record the six song follow up, "Crash Test in Progress". Sonically speaking, the heavy riffs, haunting melodies and atmosphere that were prominent in "Phantom Moon" all remain but each element exists in its own space and is evenly dispersed throughout the 6 songs. Personnel-wise, where "Phantom Moon" consisted mainly of guest musicians throughout (from the likes of dUg Pinnick (King's X), David Angstrom (Hermano), and Matt Wolfe (Byzantine) to name a few), "Crash Test in Progress" simply features the live band members on all 6 tracks with the sole purpose of representing the tenacious live sound that has been realized over the previous two years.
