Reinventing a few older tracks among a gamut of new work, Volt 9000's 3rd full-length album "Mutronix" takes a leap into the realm of low-fi AND hi-fi sound, challenging the listener to take a journey down the path of electro-industrial madness. Disembodied vocals, distorted sounds, 8-bit noises, warped samples and twisted glitched audio decimates the ears, all the while infusing traditional hooks and choruses, bordering the line between insane avant-garde experimental, and fun electro pop. Lyrically the album dives into new territory as well, being much less personal and introspective than the previous release, Atomica. Though lyrically abstract in nature, frontman Cory Gorski helms the direction into bizarre social/political rantings and ravings, delving in everything from the treatment of US veteran soldiers, to the religion vs evolution debate. Pushing and evolving the sound itself into new boundaries, newcomer Andrew Dobbels blows away all preconceived notions of experimental synthesis and brings to the table a glitchy mutated warpath of lush synths, drones, and pulsating drum beats. Mutronix paves it's way into a lost and war-torn genre, mutating a spiraling out of control.. but all the while dragging the listener kicking and screaming with a smile. Consider yourself warned.
