简介
New People is a band from Madison, WI featuring singer-songwriters Mark Lint and Matt Ackerman. Founded in the spring of 2006, adding propulsive drummer Julian Salgado Laredo on drums that summer. Mark has fronted several bands going back to 1991, including Ann Arbor's psychedelic, eclectic "The MayTricks," Austin's power-pop quartet "The Fake Johnson Trio" and its later, more Texan-sounding "Mark Lint and the Fake," and the funky folk-rock of "Madison Lint." Matt is newer to songwriting but has played many more live shows with Madison stalwarts Blamm-O, Doll, and the Sundogs, among other bands dating back decades. In most of their recent bands, Mark whaled on a classical guitar, while Matt was the rock-steady bass player, but for New People, Matt steps into the lead guitar role, while Mark returns to his original love, the bass, alternating McCartney-esque melodies with solid 8th note thumping. Julian, a recent immigrant to the Wisconsin from Mexico and a veteran of years of music school and many a classic rock and Mexican rock cover band, adds immense energy and a sometimes jazzy flair to the usually-distortion laden, spare but full-sounding arrangements. This is Mark's first band in a dozen years sharing lead-vocal duties, and Matt's first as a lead vocalist. The band was started as a fun project for two guys who liked to hang out and enjoyed each other's songs, but they steadily realized that this could be the most accessible, most powerful, most professional-sounding band that either them had yet been involved with. With a competitive spirit to outdo each other's songs, yet with cooperation to keep put the best of each writer into each song whenever possible, the result is a powerhouse, with two unique, likable singers harmonizing over a clear, strong, guitar-based modern rock backing punctuated by tasteful, tuneful guitar solos.
