Vocalist and Sax man Wes Smith has created a one of a kind sound in his debut album, 'Without the Night.' Smith combines the irresistible rhythms of Brazil with his own original lyrics and melodies to create a musical experience that is danceable yet deeply musical, adventurous and yet never 'out-to-get' the listener.

Smith's vocal style is uncluttered, to the point and at times reminiscent of Chet Baker. Also an accomplished instrumentalist as well, Smith shows a very different side of himself via his saxophone playing, flute work and arranging chops which are fiery and virtuosic. Vocalist Carla Hassett is not to be out done however - with a pure and graceful style of singing, she is completely captivating throughout the album, singing in both English and Portuguese. The rest of the band is, without exception, on top of their game. The horns are punchy, the rhythm section is tight and energetic and the ensemble as a whole is constantly engaging in musical dialogue of the utmost caliber.
