"Den Högre Musiken" (The Higher Music") is a fantasy novel series (so far only available in Swedish), which takes place in a world where people with a special gift called The Spark can do magic things with music. In the first part of the series, "Provet i Philipopolis" ("the Test in Philipopolis"), we get to meet Elena, a young orphan girl growing up at a music boarding school in Bulgaria, where she learns to play the Kaval flute.
