简介

What people are saying about Corvidae: Searing imagery and multicolored soundscapes for bittersweet tales of love and wartime. Myshkin is world-weary, resigned, with much beauty in her music and in the achy thickness of her voice. -Blogcritics.org Both lyrical and politically pointed, though blessedly free of rhetorical excesses. Myshkin's Ruby Warblers are all about the sound: a rich blend topped with her broad-ranging, keening voice. - Washington Post "Dusky, haunting gems. Corvidae, for all its risk-taking, never sounds forced or unnatural; while Myshkin is all over the place in terms of influences, her work never fails to sound totally organic on this excellent, if brief, CD." - All Music Guide Myshkin's voice is not to be taken lightly. A gorgeous rich alto infused with natural drama and melancholy, and best applied to her own songs: hushed one-act plays that speak volumes. - New Orleans Times Picayune languid and lovely - athensmusic.com Unsettling, ethereal poetry, haunting vocals, an unforgettable performance. - An Honest Tune Timeless country jazz numbers with the occasional synthetic beat, placing them as firmly in today as tomorrow. Myshkin and company are unique unto themselves, simply impossible to shake. - GLT San Diego Literate music with a contemporary edge. - Sacramento news and review Every bit as creatively challenging as a radiohead album, sans the 6,000 layers of instruments. A quietly militant social commentary. - coffeehousetour.com Dark, smoky folk-jazz. Gripping, affecting and disquieting. - Read Magazine Corvidae, the newest collection of Myshkin's songs, is both a return to her earlier jazz influenced work, and a departure into new electronic flavored territory. With a theme of war stories resonating throughout, the band has created a record that is "somber and disquieting, which is to say, perfectly in tune with contemporary America" (Metro Magazine, UK). The singing is exquisite and the writing as bold as ever. Myshkin, named by Folk Roots Magazine UK "one of the best songwriters around", is most known for her rich alto, odd melodies and vividly storied lyrics. Her writing is built of subtle wit and thorny truths; she tackles themes of work and love, war and justice, prison and escape, in a style that draws on a world of influences - from gypsy to punk to jazz. She lets her songs fly on an intoxicating powerhouse voice that travels straight to your hidden places. The haunting intensity of the music finds balance in the dark humor of her songs. Myshkin was raised in the Midwestern U.S. in a music-obsessed immigrant family. She studied theater, taught herself guitar, worked as a taxi driver, painter, roofer, baker and parade float maker, and traveled the States and Europe before landing in Louisiana. During a decade in New Orleans, Myshkin gathered chops and inspiration and toured tirelessly on three continents, performing on average 300 nights a year. She played major music festivals from Vancouver to Melbourne, toured Europe annually and released five records of solely her material, and three collaborative records. She recorded with dozens of artists, was involved in a variety of local and regional projects, and was a founding force behind a resurgent acoustic scene in the crescent city. In 2001 she formed Myshkin's Ruby Warblers and in 2003 the band left the south for the west coast. In wet, literate Portland, Oregon they are finding fertile ground for their continuing musical evolution.
