简介
Josh Cohen has always been inspired by musicians and composers who have overcome the perceived limitations of their instrument to create new sounds and possibilities once thought unachievable. The art of solo composition and arranging is especially challenging and at the same time rewarding by making elements of harmony, rhythm, and melody all the sole responsibility of one instrument as opposed to several being played in conjunction with each other. The electric bass is an especially difficult instrument to combine all of these elements effectively and with ease, many times only possible through the use of extended techniques pioneered or adopted by virtuoso bass players such as; Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius, Dominique Di Piazza, Zander Zon, Steve Bailey, Jean Baudin and many others. In his debut solo bass album ‘Out of the Bassment’, Josh explores new realms and sonic possibilities for the solo electric bass through the use of extended techniques, both original and adopted from previous innovators. In expanding the repository of sounds available and opening up new avenues for the electric bass in solo instrumental music, Josh aims to inspire both bass players and other artists to break away from tradition and expand our perceptions as both creators and appreciators of art. “Josh’s subliminal bass tones and his use of layered chords certainly show the bass in a new light, with his often guitar-like playing style subtly guiding each composition” - Ibass Magazine “There is a very good bassist from Canada named Josh Cohen and he is going to do something big in the future” - Bassbaba Sumon - Ekattor TV Music Buzz
