简介

Following the successful release of my first CD, I choose to work with the same talented crew: Rich McFarlane (SCMA guitarist of the year for at least a decade), Gent Laird (bass player for Alexis Normand among others), Glenn Ens (percussion to everyone), and Ross Nykiforuk (producer for The Deep Dark Woods, The Sheepdogs, and The Northern Pikes). I was fortunate to be selected as a Finalist in the 2014 Singer/Songwriter Mentor Contest sponsored by the Songwriters Association of Canada for “The Chronoscope Trips,” which is the lead track. The work of Brian Greene, star physicist and superstring theorist, provided inspiration for “The Chronoscope Trips.” He published The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos (2011). I read it and was ever so thankful for the “everyday” explanations that preceded the complex mathematical ones. More than anything I was intrigued with the implications about our assumptions about "matter." If the amount of matter is fixed, then there are, necessarily a set number of combinations in which it may be arranged (as I understand it). So, it is possible that there is more than one universe existing, more than one me, and more than one you, right now. This concept became fodder for the lead track...Parallel lives can confound you...In the temporary ether of love’s warm embrace, is this all it comes down to: You and I in this time and place? And with each missing thought that searches for a believer, the Chronoscope Trips... On a completely different note, Old Man Winter provided inspiration for the track “As If I Could.” It was winter. I was on the tenth floor overlooking the harbor. It was a beautiful white-out blizzard. Snow was mowing in all directions, leaving spirograph-like traces on the picture window. As I turned back toward the kitchen, I noticed it was snowing inside. I was not on the ground floor, nor was I in the penthouse, how could snow make its way inside? ...And not only that, it was doing so beautifully, placidly descending towards the bathmat. Was I in a giant snow-globe? Was I in my own of the Truman show? ...Snowstruck directed by Norman Jewison? How does one snap out of a snow globe? No, I was not, in fact, in a snow globe. The wind had carried snow along the dryer ducts starting from the outside of the unit, along those in the bedroom, and funneled it through the restroom fan. By the time the wind reached the ventilation fan, the gusts were stilled, and so the snow meekly fell. This true story captures for me the “it’s complicated” relationship we have with winter. From the outside, the snow-globe is pretty; from the inside, one cannot escape the artificial snow. Sometimes, liking or not-liking winter is all a matter of perspective.... “As If I Could”...a gem of a smooth jazz tune. In addition to these two tracks there are eight more for your enjoyment....
