简介

This is the soundtrack of the film "Win. Lose. Forgive." Produced by Raph (Neil Raphael) with Creative Direction from Kurt Hoffmann and Director Mer Aldao and featuring: Cellist: Suellen Primost Khim: Suknisa Woraprayoon The voices of Muay Thai: - Jongsanan "Woodenman" - Monlit Sitpohdaeng - Ben Brown "Win. Lose. Forgive." is a short film (run-time 27 minutes) that offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of Muay Thai and the lessons it teaches. The film features legends of Muay Thai: fighter and trainer Jongsanan "Woodenman", Monlit Sitpohdaeng (voted Muay Thai Coach of the Year 2010 in Thailand), and Ben Brown, student of Jongsanan and Monlit and a trainer at his own school based in Santa Rosa, California, PHAS3 Martial Arts. The film captures a powerful ethic embraced by those with deep roots in Muay Thai and the spirituality gained through this brutal sport known as the "Art of 8 Limbs." The documentary was filmed in December 2012 at El Nino Training Center in San Francisco, California and at Wat Buddhanusorn Thai Theravadan Buddhist Temple in Fremont, California. The story behind the film In the fall of 2012, Ben Brown contacted me for help preparing a press release. I was a student at his martial arts school in Santa Rosa, California, and had been helping with promoting the school. Ben trained weekly at El Nino Training Center in San Francisco with the legendary and prolific Muay Thai champion and trainer Jongsanan "Woodenman". Jongsanan's former trainer, the accomplished and respected coach Monlit Sitpohdaeng would be coming to the U.S. and they planned to certify Ben Brown, which would make him the only one to receive this honor in North America. At the time I suggested we take this rare opportunity to document this event on camera. I had just met a young, talented film maker Mer Aldao for another project, so I asked her to help. As the shooting unfolded, it became clear there was a great story being told and I could not escape the idea that we needed to make a film. At many turns, this project seemed to be creating itself. We found out there would be a special blessing at a Buddhist temple as part of the certification. Misjudging the travel time, Mer and I arrived an hour early. As luck would have it this 'mistake' gave us extra time with the monks as well as some young practitioners who the monk had demonstrate some traditional Thai music. From early on I had a concept to create custom music for the film using the percussive beats of the training we had captured in the shooting juxtaposed to more delicate sounds that represented the spirituality that was achieved through the brutal workouts. I enlisted cellist Suellen Primost who I had worked with on a previous project. The Thai music, played by Suknisa Woraprayoon, also became an essential part of the music, which was all brought together by Neil Raphael, a producer I had been working with on personal music projects. Neil aka (Raph) is truly the heart and creator who made this music happen. As we were developing the music, Ben mentioned how much he loved the different pieces, and even the ones we didn't use he kept listening to the drafts and wishing they were longer. Next thing we knew we were working on an extended soundtrack for the film, including all the music that appears in the film, but also pieces that we did not use. I'm especially happy we got to use so many of the tracks Suellen laid down at her recording session. So here we are, after about 10 months of effort and incredible experiences, and we have a nice little 27 minute film and 30 minute soundtrack to show for it. At the end we have captured the incredible values and talents of a handful of people, those on the screen and those behind it, and am grateful for the opportunity to offer that up, in honor to them and in the hopes this will inspire others to do great things.
