Andy Lucas is a pianist and singer from Scotland. His new album 'Burying Bones' is released on May 25th 2017. Andy studied music in Newcastle under the tutelage of Hammond Organist Gerry Richardson, long time collaborator and sideman of Sting. After college he headed to Glasgow, along with his longtime drummer and bandmate Brian Payne. It was here that Andy started playing in piano bars, capturing this time in the song “The Miserable Musical Prostitute”. The characters he encountered during this time inspired much of his debut album 'Weekend Millionaire' released in 2010. “Weekend Millionaire” was recorded on a shoestring in Glasgow.. The multi-layered record moves between piano and vocals, to grand orchestral arrangements awash with heart wrenching strings. A record that tells stories, asks questions, hints at answers and will make you want to know more, it was described as “…one of the top 20 albums of the year” -Misformusic, and “the best debut album I have heard in a long, long time”- The Music Critic . The first single from that record, Turbulence, became a surprise radio hit in Beirut and across Lebanon in 2011. Andy only became aware of this following a succession of facebook and youtube comments. A follow up single Love Games was also a hit in the region. This led to gigs abroad for various Lebanese events, including the band playing in Mykonos, Greece. Andy formed the current lineup of Brian Payne on Drums and Charlotte Printer on Bass to tour the record. They began working on new songs live, and decided to record a new album in The Green Door Studio in Glasgow. Using an old upright piano, vintage drum kit and an old Jazz Bass, they recorded onto tape in an entirely anaolgue studio. The resulting album Burying Bones is a record that captures the bands live performance, at times barrelling perilously close to derailment, and at times sparse and brutally honest. The band are all seasoned musicians, having each toured with various artists as session musicians. Andy also plays keyboards in Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire, and as part of that band has played on radio and TV, countless festivals, and played as backing band to many well know names including amongst others Kris Kristofferson, Ricky Ross, Justin Currie, Eddie Reader, Beth Orton, Amy Helm, Lau, Blue Rose Code, Frazey Ford and Dawes.
