This song is not meant to dishonor our American flag. The Folded Flag is a symbolic expression of our nation’s profound gratitude and is presented to honor individuals for selfless service and often ultimate sacrifice, after serving to preserve our American Republic and the ideals for which it stands; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The Folded Flag is intended to reflect great honor and to express gratitude, but in addition to the flag, all of us owe so much more to the honorees and their families. This song has humble origins but is born of much gratitude and great compassion. We know the recording has flaws because we are not recording artists, but we believe that the message is a profound one. It is our genuine effort to appeal to every American to continue to pay tribute to all of our proud heroes, long after the Folded Flag has been presented. This includes our military servicemen and women as well as their families; our brave law enforcement officers; our fearless firefighters; and all of the other most courageous first responders who avail themselves at a moment’s notice during the most perilous of circumstances. Although we benefit from all of their efforts and great sacrifices daily, all too often their pain and suffering and that of their family members live on. We should strive never to forget them, and to do everything that each of us can do in our own individual capacity as an American citizen, to give them the honor they so richly deserve and to help lessen their burdens and to assist them and their families in improving the quality of their lives.
