Hmmmmm…..Decisions…decisions….Mommy-hood won out when Jeanette decided to quit her day job on Parliament Hill working for MPs & Senators & a Cabinet Minister to follow her dream to be a full time musician. She quit her day job in 1989, bought her gear, got an agent and started playing all across Eastern Ontario. Things were going well and she was on the road an average of 15 days a month playing cover tunes. But that wasn’t enough. She wanted to play her own original compositions so she started throwing in a tune here & there and great feedback, decided to record a CD of original songs with dreams of a national tour across Canada. So off to studio, singing her heart out, with dreams as big as the open Prairie skies, she finds out she is pregnant in the middle of recording her debut album. That’s where the Mom/Music decision had to be made. Launch the album & travel across Canada with babe in arms? Or leave babe at home to be raised by others? Or? That’s when mommy-hood won out and Jeanette ended up releasing 7 independent solo albums over the course of 18 years while being a full time Mom. Oh. And she sang Live on Parliament Hill for Canada Day, at 2 Olympic Games & opened an international women’s World Congress in Helsinki, Finland, among other things, along the way. A very interesting, winding, exciting musical path that is about to take her down another road now that her daughter is in University full time. Well, not quite full time because Mother & Daughter have just teamed up to record a double children’s album – lively songs & lullabies due out in the Fall 2014. And a real treat for her that her musical partner who has co-produced all her albums has his son singing on this project to. After over 18 years of working together, they are both thrilled to each have their children involved who are great talents in their own right. In 2012, Jeanette received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for helping to advance causes & community projects such as Songs of Hope for Haiti, World AIDS Day, The County Cares Tsunami Benefit Concert, Invisible Army, among many others. She also was recently named an honourary member of Business & Professional Women (BPW) Canada. In 2010, she received the prestigious “Leading Women, Building Communities Award (one of 104 in Ontario). Also that same year, her song, “Waiting To Welcome You” was adopted as the official song for the Municipality of Prince Edward County, Ontario. In 2009, Jeanette was voted Woman in Business of the year. In 2013, she was voted Reader’s Choice Favourite Local Entertainer (8th time). She has recently launched her new show, “I’m An Acadian-Canadian, Eh!”, a loving tribute to her Acadian heritage through storytelling, songs, fiddling, stepdancing & harmonica playing. It is accompanied by her latest bilingual CD, AcadieODYSSEY.
