Indie-Country artists Olin and The Moon have accomplished a difficult task in the music realm, straddling two worlds successfully. The world of the indie scene and the country scene, a combination that can be seen in the varying faces of their audience. The roots of this five-piece outfit started in Sun Valley, Idaho. The town possesses a thick history of being the go-to place for artists since the 1930s. It is in this art-rich country haven backdrop, that brothers David (lead vocals, guitar) and (guitarist) Travis LaBrel met (drummer) Marshall Vore and begin their own creative journey down the road of sound. In 2005, feeling the limitations and entrapments of small town life, the road led them to Los Angeles and the meeting of members Brian McGinnis (Banjo/Pedal Steel) and (Bass) Kyle Vicioso. Together, Olin and The Moon created a sound that is a unique mix of old country twang, youthful folky lyrics, and exploding sounds with an indie perspective. These boys have a large catalogue of wide-ranging songs, from what sounds like the soundtrack to a bad a** gun blazing western drama to a cheers and beers good ole country tune. This unsigned band has taken the DIY approach to releasing their music and what they have been able to accomplish on this level is phenomenal. Since arriving in the arts neighborhoods of the Los Angeles Eastside, this band of brothers and friends have acquired a lists of accomplishments that includes the licensing of their album “Footsteps” (released in 2010) by the popular television show “One Tree Hill” on the CW Network. A good deal for any band in the ever-changing music industry of today, however even greater still that the deal was struck before the album was completed. Amazing! Their latest self-produced album, “Destroyer” is a testament to the bond these musicians have created not only amongst themselves, but in their community. Finding their groove they recorded the album in a week at the famed Bedrock Studios in Echo Park amongst fellow friends and musicians. One listen through each of the 7 tracks and you’ll fall in love with this rag-tag group.
