It is as much a part of me as yours and here they are: “AAU” written & composed 1994. This song is about being single, lonely & wanting to be with someone, imagining this beautiful person coming into your life & all the happiness that comes after. It's a romantic song meant for everyone sometime in their life. Rhythm & beat was influenced by the ever popular Caribbean style of music. Note: Listen to Mohan Karki's Violin solo at the opening of the song its neat! Also, listen to Kishor Gurung's Acoustic Guitar solo it is lovely! “Asaar Ko Mahina” written & composed 1992. These are the type of songs I cherish a lot. This has to do with the MONSOON season, our agrarian traditions of rice planting, harvesting and festivities that come before and in between. There are categories of folk tunes in Nepal such as Jhyaure, Tamang Selo, Gaine Geet and this is a typical folk called “Asaare”, off course little modernized by including Bass, Keyboard, etc. This song was inspired by our beautiful culture & events like visiting the Machindra Jatra and Bhoto Jatra every year during my childhood growing up in and around Jawalakhel. I’m glad to be a part of this culture and also glad I could write a song about this beautiful season & festival. Nowadays, with TV and FM Stations all over the country this festival is gaining bigger momentum which makes me happy. Note: Listen to J B Lama play his Bansuri(Bamboo Flute)it is a masterpiece!! Both J B & Bharat are busy studio musicians in Kathmandu. “Priti Ko Jharna”, these words were first put in paper by my friend Subas Bista back in 1982. Ravi Pradhan a friend of mine and I composed the music in 1983. I was re-writing this song over and over until the spring of 1999 right before the recording, by then it was close to 18 years of writing. I loved the first line of the song, “Preeti Ko Zharna”, can you imagine a “Waterfall of Love”. I could never let go of this beautiful imagination by Subas. I thought his imagination back then was great and I still think it’s one of his best lines. This was one reason why I kept holding on to this song for as long as I did and managed to record it. Besides the first line and a couple of other words, majority of the song was re-written for the melody. With all this said and done the song is about the ever important word, LOVE. “Narou Narou”, this song was written, composed and arranged by Kishor Gurung the master himself. This song had been around for a long time since I was a student of Kishors back in 1984. It’s about departure between two lovers and holding on to the memories and also hoping to get together some day. I thought the tune had great melody & lyrical content. The arrangement is also wonderful with the guitar and bass completely outstanding. I’m just glad & very lucky to be a part of this beautiful song. Note: Kishor Gurung is a Graduate of San Francisco Conservatory of Music in Classical Guitar and also holds a Masters Degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawai. “Bhana Bhanana”, Written & composed around 1989. This song is about reconciling and revamping an affair or a marriage. I was looking into other people’s expressions & feelings while writing this song. I’ve seen marriages & affairs break up everywhere. The important lesson you learn by listening to this song is that you need to have a dialogue with whomever you're having problems with, especially someone whom you care & have a beautiful relationship with. “Phoote Ko Aina Ma”, written & composed in 1996. It discusses about looking into broken mirrors, usually a taboo ingrained in a lot of people around the globe. The good luck and bad luck taboo, not something I believe in I was just playing around with the words and the tune. I decided to add in some romantic words and made it a romantic song and a positive one at the end, regardless of the taboo one can still be together & have a wonderful time. This melody as a whole turned out to be nice while writing & composing and decided to record it. “Hera Kati Ramro Phulabari”, a tune composed by my good friend & a brother to me Mr. Shyam Lama, sometime in the early eighties (1981/82). This tune initially had no words to it. This was one of those tunes I could not let go off. I was always playing with the words, in fact a lot of words. There isn’t any tune that I’ve looked for words as hard as I have for this one. I had these words (Hera Kati Ramro Phulabari) lying around since 1991 but never thought it would be a good match for the tune. Suddenly one day it clicked the match between the words & the tune was perfect. These words were written for my father and his beautiful garden. The song tells you about Flowers and how happy flowers can make you during its short life span and the color it creates during different seasons. The song compares Flowers and Humans and also suggests that we must be like Flowers which can make everyone happy everywhere regardless of age, race, gender or the place on earth. This song is dedicated to my father who loved gardening and has been an inspiration to all of us who knew him and his love for gardening. “Timi Aai Dina Le”, written & composed 1987. This is a song about relationship and how happy one can be with the right person coming into his/her life. All the sorrows, sadness & hardship can fade away and he/she can be rejuvenated with their love, happiness & relationship together. This song was one of those songs which I didn’t have to re-write or re-tune. It was recorded exactly the way it was written & composed back in 1987. Song was arranged as Techno Music to go with the lovely melody & lyrics. Techno for me was 1st of its kind I’d never done one before and haven’t done another since.
