简介
WELCOME TO THE MUSICAL WORLD OF SRIMATI Srimati is a Southern California based singer-songwriter with a spiritual and healing focus, and a story behind her songs. She was an untaught musician five years ago, when in the middle of a spiritual crisis, she sat down at a harmonium and sang a complete song she didn’t know as it flowed through her. She was experiencing what other songwriters have described as song channeling in its purest form. Five years later, still untaught, she continues to channel songs reflecting her spiritual path, her life’s joys, and it’s struggles, creating a music that is accessible in its simplicity, and powerful in its universal themes of meditation, resolving inner questions, and seeking a peaceful center. With her first release, you will get to share in the musical journey travelled by Srimati since that first, spontaneous song was channeled five years ago. Moreover, “Mother of Mine” is a unique family affair. Quite remarkably, the album was produced by her seventeen-year old son Tyler, who accompanies her on guitar, bass guitar, organ, percussion, esraj, piano and background vocals. Her fifteen-year old son Trapper plays drums and percussion. Rounding out her band is her nineteen-year old nephew Harrison Mathis on guitar, bass guitar and piano. And production assistance was provided by her brother Stuart Mathis, currently guitarist for The Wallflowers. What you will hear are songs with the timeless, ageless quality of folk music, sung in an unembellished, straightforward way, with the firmness of spiritual strength, and the emotion of seeking and longing. You will hear a warm, major-key music with the light-filled spaciousness of the Laurel Canyon sound created several decades ago by fellow California based singers such as Linda Ronstadt and Joni Mitchell, while being original, and of itself, fully self-contained. And while there are echoes of other spiritually inclined singers, particularly those in the current folk scene, such as Joanna Newsome and Devendra Banhart, and their earlier influences, such as Vashti Bunyan and Anne Briggs, Srimati’s sound is unique in its plainspoken, yet deeply moving, approach, which is instantly touching and accessible. You will be touched by Srimati. Enjoy and share.
