I am Margo Morrison and as a writer of Poems, Stories and Songs, I like to write my lyrics, not only in the Dutch or English language, but especially in “Sranan Tongo.” That is the Language of SURINAM, the country were I was born. Surinam is a country in South America and a formal colony of The Netherlands. The spoken language in Surinam is still Dutch, after 41 years of independancy. I am living in The Netherlands for a very long time, but I still speak my language and keep it in my heart like a treasure. It is my intention that the next Surinam generation in The Netherlands and all over the world, also can speak “Sranan Tongo” and pass it through on the next generation. “This track ”Ik kan Surinaams Spreken” (= I can speak Surinam), is the first track of my album “OMA’s KNUFFELTJE” (=Grandma’s Loving One) ”Ik kan Surinaams Spreken” is a very nice song for children and adults to start learning about the Surinam language, ‘Sranan Tongo.’ But it is not only for the Surinam people, everyone who have the interest, to learn more about Surinam. Every Dutch song of “OMA’s KNUFFELTJE” is translated in the Surinam language, Sranan Tongo. Some are also translate in English. All the songs off the album are educational songs, which means: ‘The wise words of Grandmother and Grandfather’ like the old-fashion way, with love and respect for each other.
