Justin Patterson and Laura Lynn Danley, aka Ten Penny Gypsy, have been following the beat of their own drum for years, separately as solo artists. A fortuitous, chance encounter at a songwriter showcase in Arkansas changed their destiny and direction, and this alt-country Americana duo was formed. "Justin reminds me of what would happen if James Taylor and Gordon Lightfoot had a love child", muses David Hughes, a promoter with Unknown Legends Artists in Hot Springs, AR. "He writes insightful, heartfelt, and intelligent lyrics. His songs can be haunting one minute and turn rockabilly the next. He is a refreshing voice and talented writer". The latter could also be said of his musical partner, Laura Lynn Danley. With her poetic and melodic way of conjuring up old memories, you can almost taste and smell the very essence of her lyrics. "Laura is very reminiscent of Tammy Wynette or Joni Mitchell. She has an intriguing and infectious personality, with a vulnerability that draws you in", says Anthony Crawford of Admiral Bean Studio in Loxley, AL, producer of their self-titled debut album recorded in February 2017. Crawford should know, having recorded and performed with rock icons for over forty years (Neil Young, Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam). The famed multi-instrumentalist pulled every rabbit out of his hat for Ten Penny Gypsy, creating a lush musical backdrop, while keeping the message of each song simple and clear. "I do believe that Ten Penny Gypsy's debut album is a snapshot of Justin Patterson and Laura Lynn Danley in full bloom", says Crawford. Ten Penny Gypsy couldn't be a more perfect name for these two. Both have lived a somewhat nomadic existence, a reality that has propelled them to write about their eclectic journeys along roads less traveled. While Arkansas remains home for this dynamic duo, Justin and Laura are planning a tour across the Southeast this year in support of their new album.
