They all possess a certain swagger, a certain charm, a special energy, and are definitely a magnetic force to those individuals around them. Just like a star in the sky, a true Star will continue to shine whether you notice it or not. Meet Chris Shields, born and raised in Maywood, IL. Product of a single parent home, but thanks to a strong woman Chris is here today. He started off as young charismatic prep basketball player and found himself in a place some might call the “Trap” as a small time hustler. Through out life Chris was always passionate about music and the release of the Blueprint by Jay-Z in 2001 brought out a hunger to rhyme. So young Chris would construct a flow he could call his own from sun up to down on the corner of 6th and Walnut while making a few dollars. As Chris continued to hustle and found himself falling deeper into the “Trap”, he smartened up and used his basketball skills to put himself through school. A basketball scholarship and education from one of the best Private institutions in the nation, Mckendree University, gave Chris time to reflect. Also gave him time to polish his flow. Upon completion of school in 2006 Chris headed back to Maywood ready to make his embark on a musical journey that would open the eyes of everyone in Chicago. But every path has its bumps and he sure had his. Fast forward to August 29th, 2007 when Chris recorded the 1st song, “Smiling Faces”, for his then untitled album. The song caught the attention of a lot of ears and on September 30th 2007 he shot the video for it and the rest is history. The buzz grew about the upcoming release from Chris Shields and a “Shields Is Next” campaign was started thru the streets of Chicago. After 5 months of constant recording and 3 months of setbacks “Lend Me Ya Ear” was born on April 2nd, 2008. The 16 track disc is considered a classic debut album by many and some have said the best release after Lupe Fiasco’s “The Cool” and Kanye West’s “Graduation” (Here, think of something better after those two……no you cant!). Chris went on to do great numbers sold for an independent artist especially since he didn’t drop a mixtape before the release of his debut album. “Mack Down” the 2nd single went on to be #1 on DJ Timbuck2’s go ill radio on WGCI for 3 weeks in a row with 4 straight weeks of rotation. “Smiling Faces” also found it way into Go ill radio rotation. Now with the upcoming release of “Everybody Hates Chris” the mixtape and the 2nd album “Logically Speaking” we’ll leave you with something salivate over. So we’ll leave some of Chris Shields’s story for the book and documentary because history is being made. Remember starts aren’t bred they’re born! MAKE A WISH!!
