“Check, Check, One, Two…” The first words you hear over a piano melody that sounds like spring time in the southern states with tuned 808 kick drums rumbling below. DJ brimLo, the Mississippi native, starts off this letter complaining a bit about the back and forth of pursuits in companionship. He warns to “partake at your own pace.“ Jake Lloyd joins in on the finger pointing with “Big Guns” as the duo proclaim calling her mother is an option if she won’t return a phone call. After guest producer Chef Greezy (co-producer of “Secret”) provides the sonic backdrop pleading for an evening of potentially private encounters, there is hope of more (”So Much more) only if she is ready (“If Your Ready”). We then hear our first and only female contribution to these Awkward Love Letters. TempestB’s pen is only surpassed by her voice. “Goodbye Again” is a timeless Hip-Hop Soul collab between songstress and wordsmith. As we round our way thru insecurities presented in “Small Town Love,” DJ brimLo nods to anthems of the past in the ode “Countryboy Freestyle.” This heavily themed LP tastefully scores the awkward adventures that we encounter seeking love.
