简介
The songs on this album document the time that I have been performing as Mister Steve. They were written between 2003 and 2012. The recordings were made in my studio starting in 2012. The album was mastered by Simon Gibson at Abbey Road Studios in September, 2014. The songs on this album cover a variety of topics. 1. "Woody's World" - Woody was my next-door neighbor for many years. He was on the U.S.S. Nevada at Pearl Harbor but never talked about it. He liked fishing and growing sweet peas. He never hesitated to be helpful: "Hey, Steve, you're cutting your grass too low!" and "Hey, Steve, your brake tag's expired!" 2. "Flashes" - Hopeful feelings that come from out of the blue 3. "At the Gate" - Inspired by an old photograph of a group of immigrant men who were refused entrance at Ellis Island. Rejection. 4. "Dragonfly" - Coastal erosion is turning New Orleans into a coastal city and is happening so fast that maps of the wetlands and GPS are always outdated. 5. "If the Bones Get Loose" - Some things in the past are better left there. 6. "The True Dishonest Slave" - When you know who's in charge in a relationship (and it's not you). 7. "She's My Girl" - My daughter 8. "Out to the Chef" - A truck sings of the dumps out by Chef Menteur Highway, post Katrina, in New Orleans. 9. "Somewhere In This Place" - When you feel something is there 10. "Fatigue in B" - Living with fear The musical arrangements are modeled on 60s, 70s and 80s rock, e.g., late Beatles, "Dark Side of the Moon", Fleetwood Mac, and Alan Parsons. My website, mistersteve.com, has more info including links to the music videos, my musical bio, and the story of my trip to London to attend the mastering session at Abbey Road. Thanks to my family, friends, and fans for coming to my shows in New Orleans. Thanks to those who offered advice and criticism during the development of this album.
