Marisa Johnson is an up-and-coming classical-crossover artist currently working on her forthcoming album. Combining elements of classical and popular music, Marisa has performed in premiere opera houses, world-class stages, and headlined shows on the Las Vegas Strip. With her rich, classical, signature sound, she brings a new sense of excitement and sentiment to operatic favorites and pop standards alike. The outcome is epic- soulfully classical music with a contemporary flare. The Las Vegas Seven Magazine has called her “singing magic” and the Las Vegas Review Journal has said, "Johnson’s soprano has a lovely musicality... She perfectly articulates in voice and character." She opened for Enrique Iglesias at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay has performed all over the Las Vegas Strip including the Hotels: Planet Hollywood, Palazzo, Rio, Bally’s, and the Venetian. She is currently in the Young Artist Program with Opera Las Vegas. Marisa has performed lead roles in both operas and musicals alike including The Medium with Sin City Opera where she played Monica, Gertrude Cherry in Sin City Opera’s An Incomplete Education, and in the off-Broadway production of Tony and Tina’s Wedding at Bally’s Hotel. Some of her favorite performing roles were Maria in Bernstein’s West Side Story, Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen, Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, and singing the lead role of Maria in the Los Angeles premiere of the new opera, America Tropical. She obtained her B.M. in Vocal Performance at the University of Southern California where she studied with Grammy-winning baritone Rod Gilfry. Marisa has performed her original music at many prestigious events and TV shows including at the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, RAW Las Vegas, The Will Edwards Show, Sandy Kastel Show, No Harm Done Charity CD, and the Las Vegas Smith Center. Her music has been featured on radio stations worldwide from Australia to the West Coast. She also headlined several concerts including the 2nd Annual Broadway Gala in Los Angeles and the Women in Music and Arts: Masquerade Ball in Las Vegas. Marisa also performed as Juliet in the World Premiere of the songs from Romeo & Juliet: Forever Love at the Kodak Theatre. She has sung with Andrea Bocelli during his Christmas Special on PBS where she worked under the direction of David Foster. Her many accolades include Female Vocalist of the Year at the Kern County’s Most Talented Singer competition, Bakersfield’s Idol, Best in Classipop at the Best New Talent Awards, two Talent Awards at Miss California, and the title of Miss San Fernando Valley ’10. It is her wish to share her love of classical-crossover music with the rest of the world.
