简介
Joey Skidmore was born in Baltimore, MD and grew up in the heart of the Ozarks in Springfield, MO where he played in a variety of neo-‘60s/garage bands, and recorded a string of independent releases with Lou Whitney--of the Morells fame--before relocating to Kansas City. In the late ‘80s he began receiving airplay on a variety of “alternative” radio stations particularly in France, and went to Paris for a handful of acoustic shows with guitarist Mike Costelow in 1992. This led to a deal with the French blues label Dixie Frog Records, and “Joey Skidmore” came out in France in 1994—including the novelty hit “Butt Steak” which had received U.S. airplay on the Dr. Demento show, and on the Hound Show in New York City. Just releasing his seventh album “Joey Skidmore Now!” his material has been issued and reissued on various labels including Sunthunder from Spain, Easyaction out of the U.K., and French label 442 eme Rue. Over the years he has played with a variety of people including the late, great Nikki Sudden, Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas, Les Fossoyeurs and the Royal Nonesuch. He has opened for everybody from Helmet to Chuck Berry to George Thorogood and Blue Oyster Cult, and played high-profile festivals such as SXSW in Austin, Big Muddy in St. Louis, Summer Jam in Kansas City, and July Jamm in Lincoln Nebraska. In his words, the Joey Skidmore Band plays “Pure, unpretentious, rock and roll!” Joey continues to reside in the Kansas City area, making films such as his recent French, comedy/horror Kiki Meets the Vampires, teaching college, and playing and recording with his band.
