简介

"Little" Charles Walker was born in Nashville July 12th, 1940. Like so many others from Charles' background his singing began in Church and school. His professional musical journey began in his hometown with his first recording Slave To Love released in 1959 on the Nashville based Champion label. He relocated to New York shortly afterward and met record entrepreneur Bobby Robinson who cut some demos with Charles for his 'Fury' label. Soon afterward, a chance meeting with the J.C Davis Band, who had played the famed Apollo Theatre, opening for Jackie Wilson led to Charles becoming their lead singer. During his time with the J.C Davis band he toured the country opening for many of the greats of the era, including Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Etta James, Wilson Pickett, and Little Willie John. With Charles as lead singer they recorded Sweet, Sweet Love and The Chicken Scratch for Chess records. These cuts never became hits at the time, but their quality ensured that over the years they have become highly collectable. By 1965 Charles left the J.C Davis band and took some of the key players with him and formed Little Charles and The Sidewinders who became the number one draw on the New York club scene. Through the help of Lloyd Price and Leroy Fann of Ruby & The Romantics fame, they recorded 8 sides for Decca where they received regional and national airplay but never charted. The tracks on this album represent a studio "Live" recording of one of their incredible shows performed at either of the New York hotspots, Big Wilt's Smalls' Paradise on Lenox Avenue in Harlem and The Cheetah. You, the listener are invited to be the audience for this exciting performance. These recordings have never been released in any format prior to this CD. Plus as a bonus, six tracks also never released. Remixed and Digitally Mastered By Tom Moulton in The Mix Room.
