BORN & RAISED: Sidney Poitier Malone was born on March 6th in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a product of the deep south; a place where the grooves of soul collide with the heaviness of blues, the smoothness of jazz and the sweet sound of gospel. EARLY LIFE: Born to a blues guitarist, Melvin Malone and a God fearing mother, Myrtle Malone, S. Poitier, along with his brother, noted guitarist Melvin Malone, Jr.; was shaped into the complex musician he is with a sound that’s hard to label or duplicate. BEGINNING YEARS: Starting out earlier in his career as a sought out keyboardist, S. Poitier was well traveled by the age of 18. Known for his ability to improvise and create, he has contributed to numerous award winning songs, plays and musical projects. S. Poitier got his start singing and playing for churches in Memphis, TN as well as several venues on the famous Beale Street located in Downtown Memphis. Content to “just be a musician”, only recently, with the urging of fellow artists has S. Poitier undertaken his first solo project entitled “Life & Love”. S. Poitier credits his jam sessions with many local and internationally known artists as the fine-tuning instrument that helped develop his own unique style. He also tributes many legendary and contemporary artists such as Thomas Whitfield, George Duke, Musiq Soulchild, Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers, Sam Cooke, and Luther Vandross for inspiring his musical expression. His first single, “Like a King” was released in June 2010. NEXT ON THE AGENDA: In September 2010, S. Poitier released his second single, “When I Get There”. The full project was released in January 2011. He also plans to continue more songwritings for various artists, touring and giving his fans the type of music they want to hear. “I only want to sing with passion, because that’s what fuels life”, he says. “If my fans can’t experience passion, then they won’t go with me. This is a journey that I don’t want to take by myself. If I can make you feel it, then for me, that’s good music”.
