"Eddy Lee" Edward Lee Bullington 11-25-1965 to 02-22-1006. Born in Houston, TX showing an interest in music early on joining friends to form their first band "Venom". All went on to become professional musicians. Moving with his family to Red River, NM in late 1979. Grounded in music theory, a classical and rock and roll background, music major in classical guitar and piano at Amarillo Jr. College and the University of New Mexico. Introduced to the country western music of the area, evolving into an Americana/Country sound. A well known musician, entertainer, singer, songwriter throughout the tourist areas of Northwestern New Mexico and Southern Colorado across various areas of the US through that tourist venue. Former member of popular bands "South by Southwest" and "Hired Hands", opening for acts and sharing stages with Michael Martin Murphy, Gary P. Nunn, Lyle Lovett, Vince Gill, Crosby Stills and Nash, Rusty Weir, Asleep at the Wheel, The Desert Rose Band and Lynn Anderson. A brief stint in Nashville garnered him a cut co written with Buck Moore and Randy Travis "I Can Almost Hear Her Wings" on Travis' 1996 "Full Circle" album. "Outlaw Love" co written by Eddy Lee and Mentor Williams (of the classic hit "Drift Away"), recorded on Rusty Weir's album "Live at Gruene Hall". Eddy Lee's first solo CD "Horses On The Moon" released in May 1996 to popular and critical acclaim, both regionally and nationally. Eddy Lee and Mentor Williams co wrote many songs together. Eddy very much respected Williams and he was truly his mentor. Later re releasing "Horses On The Moon" in September 2003 with a color enhanced cover and the addition of one song. Eddy Lee was a gifted songwriter, musician and charismatic performer. He provided excellent rhythm guitar skills and was known from Taos to Nashville for a singing voice and delivery that stood on its own on any stage. Lee covered lead and harmony, contributed his strong and creative guitar work and was widely recognized as one of the premier songwriters in this region. He was one of the best known performers in Northern New Mexico during his music career. His music both in vocals and instrument keep his memory alive and to be discovered again and again by those that never knew nor ever heard of him. Fans of the late, great Eddy Lee (Bullington) of Red River, N.M., will no doubt be thrilled by the release of "Luck Of An Angel", the last compilation of his career. Locals can celebrate the albums release, Friday, June 12, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Sagebrush Inn in Taos, NM and Sunday, June 14, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Mountain Treasures in Red River, NM. Popular area musician Don Richmond and his band The Rifters headline the Taos event, while Fritz Davis and other Red River musicians will entertain guests in Red River. A third release, also headlined by Richmond, is planned in Alamosa CO, June 19 at Milagros (corner of Main and State Sts.), 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Lee who lost his life to bi-polar disease in 2006, was a life-long musician. From the time he was a child in Houston, he showed a love for playing, singing and composing. "Luck Of An Angel" features new songs by Lee and others with fresh tracks performed by Lee - several are his composition, others were either co-written by Lee or penned by others. The Album is the result of hard work by Richmond, Lee's former band-mate and friend, who did studio work and mix and graphic artist Wiz Allred, who's album cover features Lee as sort of a country-fied angel. The CD includes an 8-page foldout with photos of Lee's life and career, as well as excerpts from tributes friends and fans made on Lee's website following his death.
