MamaYo is the inspiration of Yolanda Charles. She has played bass for Paul Weller, Aztec Camera, Marcella Detroit, Incognito, Robbie Williams, Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart and more recently, BB King. Her love of early blues/funk and 80's soul have been brought together in the form of MamaYo. Entitled The Game, this is an album of her songs performed by guest vocalists, Carleen Anderson, Shaun Escoffery, Mandy Lecointe and Vanessa Freeman, with poet/rapper The Liegeman. The idea behind the project is to have taken part in "An album recorded today that has some of the qualities of old, where you can hear the people on those records, giving the songs real character and a place in time." Most tracks feature the basic band line-up, drums, bass, guitars, keyboards with occasional horns.
