Muuk is an art rock band founded on early 2013 in Mexico City. Their music is instrumental and a dense mixture of musical elements and genres such as experimental rock, electronic, noise, krautrock industrial music, trip-hop and ambient among others. The use of rare and disonant harmonies, highly atmospheric synths and several samples is usual in their music, along with free improv passages, which gives a tense and sofisticated feeling to the band’s sound. About Muuk: Muuk released their first home-made demo in August 2013, which earned them a place in Mexico City’s independent music scene, and invitations to play with the most important indie collectives such as “Aquí No Hubo Escena”, “Los Grises”, “Noise Affair” and “COLAPSO Post Rock”, among others, and their frenetic and noisey live presentations earned them prestidge. In December 2013 they travelled to León, Guanajuato to record their first homonymous LP in Testa Estudio, one of the most renowned studios in the country. Mixed by Rodrigo Esquivel and KB, and masterized in Stamha Mastering, this material was digitally released in August 2014 through Bandcamp, and in a DIY physical special edition in 2015. It was acclaimed by the audience and specialized media, being mentioned and/or reviewed in some of Mexico’s most important media and some international ones, such as Marvin, Indie Rocks (which branded it as one of the 100 best albums of the year), Sound & Vision, (which positioned them as one of the best 25 debuts of the year), IMAS, Letras Explícitas, Noisey, the american web page Remezcla, Post Rock (the most important web community of instrumental and experimental music spreading in the world) the Ukrainian blog Faeton Music, the Italian blog Atlas of Sound, in the radio shows Código DF Radio, GritaRadio and NoFM Radio among others, highlighting the tracks “Are You Mad”, “De Niro” and“Trypophobia”. In that same year, Muuk made it to the documentaries Aquí No Hubo Escena (from the namesake collective), which shows a little of the independent musical scene in Mexico City and Noise Affair el Documental, which purpouse was to make the work of some of the experimental bands emerging in the city public through a collective track made out of isolated improvisations from the bands mixed in a single track: https://goo.gl/TaMyc5 They launched the single “TL57” in the middle 2015 with which they proved they’re still one of the most authentic projects of the country, being acclaimed and highly reviewed by specialized media such as Noisey, Código DF, Rockadictos, Sound & Vision, Me Hace Ruido, La Caverna, We Are The Problem, among others. Muuk has played at some of the most important venues in Mexico city like Caradura, Imperial, Pasagüero, Multiforo Cultural Alicia, Multiforo 246, Centro de Cultura Digital and Bajo Circuito, among others, and in diferent towns of the Country, such as Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Querétaro, Puebla, Morelia and Oaxaca which they visited during their 2016 tour. Actually, Muuk is getting their second album ready, which they will release during 2018’s first semester.
