The song, Silenced Words, was mercifully written by me, Debra Kitzman, brilliantly composed by Dave Dalton and magnificently sung by Heather Cimarrusti; we are three compassionate people who came together for whatever our reasons to bring awareness to the horrid act of child abuse. A good portion of the proceeds from the sale of Silenced Words will be given to various child abuse organizations. Like most other devoted moms and grandmas; I want my children and grandchildren to feel safe, loved and secure. So when I felt a strong need and a driving force pushing me to write the lyrics to Silenced Words, I knew God was talking to me. After nearly three years of twists and turns trying to figure out the right approach on the subject, I think the final version speaks to children in way they will understand. Plus, the song reminds the rest of us to take notice when a child seems to be losing their playful, bright, lively spirit. Kids have a special place in my heart. I pray this song helps at least one child speak their silenced words, but most of all I pray that no child should ever be a victim of child abuse. I hope this song will persuade, guide, and help give a desperate child the courage they need to release their silenced words. Whether those words have been quieted forcefully or because the child is scared and thinks no one will believe they’ve been abused, or because the child feels guilt and shame or because the child is simply too shy to speak up, EVERY ABUSED CHILD NEEDS TO BE HEARD AND THE SIGNS OF CHILD ABUSE NEED TO BE RECOGNIZED BY ALL OF US.
