Equipped with just the right dark crooning edge to his voice that suggests plenty of time getting inspiration from the likes of Dave Vanian and Misfits-era Glenn Danzig, The Deep Eynde whip up an enjoyable album with Suicide Drive, following an earlier series of German-only releases. After kicking off with the single and calling card "Suicide Drive," one of the better invocations to a doomier LA than has been heard in a while, the quartet serve up a set of songs that is at the least enjoyable and at the best downright great. One or two songs are straight-up crash and bash punk but most take the time for Deleon to get in some atmosphere and memorable riffs as well as the velocity -- at no point do they simply just rely on high-speed for the sake of it.

It began when skateboard legend, Duane Peters, singer of the The Hunns/ U.S. Bombs had recently taken interest of The Deep Eynde while putting together his annual compilation “Old Skars and Upstarts”. Although the bands music was dark, Duane immediately noticed that it had a back bone that was definitely classic California punk. Within weeks, The Deep Eynde had soon found themselves being directed by Duane to release a record with his label, Disaster Records. Duane influenced the band to strip away the music, and expose once again their aggressive roots that had been since been given no attention. The result of Shadowland is a post-punk sounding sing-along album totally inspired by the bands like The Damned, Bad Religion, Lords of the New Church, The Misfits, and Agent Orange.
