Jeff Holmes专辑介绍：by Scott YanowTrumpeter-arranger Jeff Holmes' big band was very well-received when it visited Russia in the winter of 1991. On this live set, the band plays some traditional material, including effective versions of "The Mooche," the Dixieland standard "Royal Garden Blues" (although this rendition is more swing-oriented), and "Perdido." Other highlights include a tribute to Harry "Sweets" Edison, some booting tenor by Joe Meo on a jazzified version of "Pictures at an Exhibition," and some real stretching out on "Things Ain't What They Used to Be." Two Russian players (flugelhornist David Goloschekin and tenor saxophonist Sergei Gurbeloshvill) guest on a few numbers. None of the players in Holmes' orchestra are close to being famous, but their musicianship is excellent and the result is a very spirited set easily recommended to fans of current big bands.
