The Healing Art is KIVA's first album almost entirely written by Ariana Lightningstorm, the founder and band leader. KIVA's journey begins in 1989 when, with Pomegranate, Ariana sang Diana at the final performance of Pomegranate which was at the Rites of Spring Festival. After their performance, Ariana spent time in a women's sweat lodge asking for guidance about whether to continue doing music or to move on. The message from both the women and the spirits of the lodge were loud and clear... start a new group. That day, at Rites of Spring in May of 1989, KIVA was born and out of that lodge came the strength to start a group that has lasted more than 23 years so far. This album is the first of many to come.
