Kwa Makhelwane
简介
Max-Hoba’s signature sound has already earned the singer, songwriter and performer a devoted following, both in South Africa and internationally. Now this versatile artist is set to broaden his audience through his work with Paradise Sound System, a German-South African project that is playing an instrumental role in taking independent African artists to the world. One of 10 artists chosen as part of the inaugural Paradise Sound System Sessions, which took place in Johannesburg in January 2020, Max-Hoba offers up a captivating mix of AfroSoul and South African roots music to create an entrancing whole. His ability to move across different languages (primarily IsiXhosa, Sesotho and English) and musical styles gives Max-Hoba’s debut PSS release a broad appeal that is only enhanced by his rich, deep, velvety voice. Lyrically, too, this gifted artist easily moves between the universal themes of love and togetherness, and socially important subjects that soundtrack the times in which we live – unity, tolerance and more. Born and raised in the Free State mining town of Welkom, South Africa, Max-Hoba – who is also known as The Traveling Man – starts his PSS journey as a highly accomplished, multi-faceted artist. Currently one of Brand South Africa’s Play Your Part Ambassadors as well as a Vuyani Dance Theatre Ambassador and a former Oxfam Pan Africa goodwill ambassador, Max-Hoba is recognised as one of the key influencers in South Africa’s Afro-Soul and Hip-Hop genres. His independently released debut, Making History, and follow-up, Traveling Man, have eared Max-Hoba accolades including South African Music Award (SAMA) and WAWELA Music Awards nominations, and a number two position on the CMJ World Music Charts. An accomplished live performer and a sought-after music director (including for the Nirox AfroSoul Music In The Park concert), Max-Hoba’s first single – the evocative “Kwa Makhelwane” out of his forthcoming album BEYELE.
