There were two objectives for this EP. We love the full band sound, but we had an acoustic element that we felt had to be brought out. When we started writing we realized that we weren’t always writing music that was intended for a full band. Due to the varying influences from all the members in the band, songs that were meant to be an intense, driven sound eclectically mellowed and became luminescent and ambient. This resulted in songs that are built to be intense and raw and songs that are going to lullaby you to sleep. The first track, ‘Words Like Fire’, is a very rhythm focused song, more detailed towards the musical aspect than the vocal parts themselves. It’s generally longer than your standard song, playing out for at around six minutes. The longevity doesn’t take away from the sound that is trying to put out as it contains passionate sounds and driving beats that flow dynamically into a very melodic, climactic, instrumental ending. ‘Who We Are’ is an acoustic instrumental with guitars and a banjo which leads into ‘Beggars Become Thieves’. ‘Beggars Become Thieves’ starts right off the end piece of ‘Words Like Fire’ and opens back up into a full band sound. Slowly building and descending it explodes into an intense barrage of spoken words and rhythm based guitars. The song carries for about two minutes. ‘Closer’ is the most ambient song of the entire EP. There are no drums and has an almost eerie opening with a reverb effect on the guitar. Subtle and very melodic bass chording drives it. About mid point the song draws in the vocals with Adam and Karrina playing off each other ending with a choir of very angelic vocals. The last song “Falling” is a song built full of crescendos from start to finish. Very emotionally driven with lyrics based around personal, real experiences based around our faith it is one of the foundational songs of the EP. It carries strong harmonies and the vocals carry the feel, bringing out the raw emotions of the song.
