简介
Envision the ability to capture moments of your life and visualize them in music. Imagine immersing yourself in those emotions time after time. Serenity, apprehension, acceptance; though not quite tangible, the feelings they evoke determine your state of mind. In his instrumental album Dreams, Glen Spreen takes those feelings and creates a passage through the light and dark places of the mind, heart, and soul. The journey begins with “Dreams,” and all the emotions they summon. A sense of uneasiness as the song begins, is quickly eased as the intensity of rhythm builds. It quickly leads into a state of wonder and awe, followed by dramatic tempo changes signaling the flood of emotions felt in a night vision; before it returns to the calmness before awakening. In “Whispers of Sigh,” Spreen found his inspiration in just hearing the word. Beautifully arranged, it conveys the brief feeling of a sigh. Whether it offers contentment or resignation is left to individual interpretation. Starting with a powerful percussion beat, “Clouds Are Forming” elicits the tension existing just below the surface of a relationship in crisis. While the guitar suggests a desire to smooth over the roughness, the beat of restlessness and conflict continues, growing ever stronger. Deception is thick in “Game Changer.” Is the hint of something life changing worth enduring the deceit which comes before? As Spreen builds layer upon layer, he lets you decide if self-worth is worth the promise of the gold ring. “Horizons To Visualize” works through hopes, dreams, and all that awaits in the future. Offering a glimpse of what could be, the melody rides on a gentle sea of hope and anticipation. Nothing is stronger than the spirit of a human being. In “Spirit,” Spreen takes a fullness of soul and releases its beauty, as if it were an eagle soaring over the mountains. Within its full orchestration, Spreen has created a lightness of energy rising into the unknown. As if standing strong through a storm, “Willow” is a lesson of quiet survival. Smooth and low-key, its melody sways like a willow, as it fights the winds of adversity around it. Put your mind into a non-stop loop and enter into “Pensive.” It takes the moments of inward intensity, and singular focus, to show the power of the psyche. The solitary piano intro to “Dim Lights” frames the mood. With a feeling of loss and an emptiness of spirit, it drifts on a river of uncertainty. “Loves Endless Way” recognizes the parallel, though distinctly different lines between men and women. While never completely on the same path, through joy and pain, there is a way to find love and harmony. In “Naivety Releasing,” the innocence and joy found in the simplicity of youth, ultimately gives way to the need for deeper stimulation. The pureness at the start of the song gradually builds into a faster and more intense tempo, depicting eventual maturity. The final song “Storms of Apria,” builds like winds blowing off-shore, reaching into the calmness of the center, and brandishing its rage as it makes landfall. The ominous feeling as the storm begins is momentarily lifted, only to return as the full wrath of the tempest arrives. Glen Spreen, has spent a large portion of his career creating hits for a list of majors in the music business, and is now taking the time to produce the music from his soul. With early influences ranging from Tchaikovsky, Sousa and Gershwin, Spreen’s life journey found him working in the recording studio alongside such names as Dan Fogelberg, Willie Nelson, BJ Thomas, Dave Loggins, DeBarge, Joan Baez, Waylon Jennings and Elvis Presley. From his early start in Houston, to Memphis, Nashville, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Europe, Glen Spreen has arranged, produced, and played on albums all over the world. Now based out of Austin, Spreen developed Dreams as a solo project; writing, arranging, producing and playing all the instruments.
