简介
Upbeat Spanish-language hip hop track that proclaims music as medicine that can help women (and men) heal from the disempowering effects of patriarchy. In the first verse, Asliani shares the story of how she found hip hop as a troubled adolescent, struggling to find emotional closeness from a place of disempowerment. "A good girl raised to please lost the word 'no' / And if you don't have it, you can't say 'yes.'" In the second verse, she asks where women's collective pain comes from and then draws a connection to the conquest of the Goddess at the onset of Western civilization. "They killed her because she didn't comply with the rules / for being a total mamisonga, without shame." The second verse ends with a triumphant message of the possibility of overcoming the pain caused by misogynistic social conditioning: "My pain is old, my joy is ancient," she raps. "It doesn't have to be such a far-away thing / I believe in what I feel, I'm not mistaken / Go ahead, mami, open the blinds!" Featuring the sharp production of Dan K of Stackhouzemusick (Albuquerque, NM). A native of Boston, MA, Asliani is a multilingual emcee who raps from her heart about real life. She makes and shares her music in a spirit of honesty, gratitude and humility. She has experienced great healing through finding her musical and lyrical voice and hopes to extend this healing to others through her music.
