Shane Cunningham, aka Nitemode, is from Newry in Ireland; though his music would have you believe otherwise. In his debut EP for Mortar and Pestle, he evokes the calculated cool of Americas west coast.

Opening track Crystal confidently swaggers like muscle on venice beach, imagine the musical stylings of the SEGA classic "California games" jumping into reality. Forgiveness is unforgiving in its homage to 80s cinema, like a forgotten soundtrack resurfaced, its piano drop is a particular highlight, pure euphoria, while its sampled vocal melody punctuates in the background only to be brought back to the chugging bass and screeching lead. On to sunrise drive, crystalline melodies chiming over its steady thick beat and bass. If this record was a person you would be sure that right now its driving a very fast sports car, on its way to a penthouse pool party with beautiful people in time for the sunset over beverly hills. In short, its having a better time than all of us.
