I planned to build two tracks for Jenny, when I didn't hear from her for a couple of weeks I just kept building tracks. Soon I had 10. So I started reaching out to my musician friends in my home area of Venice Ca. with the idea of making a CD with multiple artists. The first track that I put anyone ells on ended up being "Jenny Make em' Clap" with my close friend Karl Leiker on bass. It gave him a well needed diversion that night. His Wife for 16 years, Helen Aktuna was battling with breast cancer at the time. You'll see why this is an important point later. The seventh person to show up was Joel Scott, the legendary keyboardist & musical director for the Jackson 5 & Aretha Franklin. It was the day of the Sandy Hook School shootings. That incident changed my consciousness about these recordings. It made me realize this music should end up "meaning something". We talked about how this CD should be dedicated to a cause because of the talent that was starting to respond to my calls & emails. When he left that night I sat & thought, "every person except one that I have recorded so far is dealing with cancer in a very personal way, themselves or their spouses or Parents". (Joel's Mother had just passed away.) So that's it, cancer healing. With the cause in focus & a new motivation I kept reaching out to my musical community on both coasts. Jenny Moller was the 13th person to record. Musicians started responding at a rapid pase. At one point I promised that if the count reached 40 I'd post a picture of me shocked & amazed on Facebook. That picture is now on the CD cover. After 7 months & 18 songs, 60 singers, songwriters, lyricists, musicians & one Mastering engineer later I had the dream come true CD completed! "If we Live" became the most "happy accident" in my long career. The theme song of the recording is the New Orleans flavored celebration "If we Live" that includes 57 singers on the chorus! A real romp down Bourbon street that leaves you elated like a Mardi Gras experience. But as life does us at times, the elation was short lived. On the very day I had completed mastering the CD (the process that completes the recording), I got the news that Karl's wife Helen had lost her 3 yr. long battle. It was totally clear to me that we now dedicate this musical miracle to her miraculous life & spirit. Produced by myself, Kevin t. Williams (The Bonedaddys, The English Beat, The Untouchables & too many more to mention here) along with world class musicians from bands as diverse as the Frank Zappa band, The English Beat, The Robby Kieger Band, Berlin, Suicidal Tendencies, The Leftover Cuties, Meet Me @ The Pub & many more. Mastered @ The legendary Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios in Hollywood, Ca by chip of the ole' block Paul Grundman.... an album dedicated to cancer healing, this music was created with love & joy to uplift as well as soothe body, mind & soul with Rock, Reggae & Soul. "If we LOVE just a little bit longer.... it will be alright!"
