A solid base of heavy, melodic rock, a sprinkling of 80's metal, pop-punk, some melo-dramatic "cure-ish" melodies with plenty of guitar, drum, and bass heroics made Phlox one of the standout bands of the late 1990s Atlanta music scence. There is absolutely no other band that demonstrated the flexibility, sense of melody, or live energy of Phlox in their prime. Now you can have BOTH of the Phlox studio albums in one place. 1998's "Da Raw Deal" is a lesson in genre bending. From the moody, but catchy "Shadows" to the pure heavy metal sound of "Capitalist Paradise" to the swingy ballad-esque "Was It Good", the album is as varied as it is catchy. The show ending "Without You" is also presented here in all of it's Cheap Trick cloning glory. 2000's "The Rainbow's End" shows Phlox as a more mature, focused band. While the album is darker as a whole, the melodies are just as irresistible as the debut and the musicianship demonstrates significant growth. Phlox is one of those bands that truly does bring something to the table for everyone.
