简介
If you're looking for something different, something honest, something real, and something that will put a smile on your face all the while rockin pretty hard, read on: The Kids of Widney High are a group of developmentally delayed young adults who have been writing and performing original songs in the LA area for the last 10 years. The project grew out of a songwriting class at Widney High which was developed to allow the students an outlet for their creative self-expression. Over the years the students and their teacher Michael Monagan have produced 3 CDs of original songs and performed in various venues around LA including the Viper Room, the Palace, and the House of Blues. The first CD, "Special Music from Special Kids" is on the Rounder Label. The second, "Let's Get Busy," is on the Ipecac Label, and the third, "Act Your Age" is on the Moonman Label. The songs on the new CD range from rock anthems like "I Make My Teachers Mad" to a reggae infused love song called "Hold Me" on to an infectious blues shuffle called "Goin Home" with plenty of other syles mixed in. Shakra Productions, a film company that has made such documentaries as "And God Said "Ha!" staring Julia Sweeney and "Full Tilt Boogie" a film about the making of the Robert Rodriquez film "From Dusk Til Dawn" is currently making a documentary about the Kids of Widney High that they expect to have finished by the summer. A feature film "The Ringer," produced by the Farrelly Bros (Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber), has just finished shooting in Austin, Texas and the Kids appear in two scenes; one singing "Pretty Girls" at a wild party and the second, singing our version of "Respect" at the end of the movie. What fun. The new CD "Act Your Age" has been shooting up the college radio charts and is in the top 20 of about 25 stations. Please visit www.kidsofwidneyhigh.com to see the latest.
